The Best Browser Plug-ins/Addons In 2018

By: Kelly Bolton   Date: March 7, 2018

Many companies use computers and the Internet to conduct business, from sending e-mails to running online stores to using social media and more. Almost all types of business activities are done digitally, and it can sometimes be hard to do it all efficiently. Thankfully there are many handy tools available to help make many things a little easier to do. Such tools include a variety of extensions that can be added  to web browsers like Google Chrome that can help you be a little more productive and efficient as you tackle all your tasks. Here’s a look at some of the best plug-ins, add-ons, and extensions you might want to use in 2018 for Chrome and Firefox, two of the more popular browsers.

Google Chrome:

  1. AdBlock/Adblock Plus. This is a great extension that will block most ads on webpages while you are surfing the web, even ads in videos.
  2. LastPass. This is a handy extension to help you manage all your passwords. It’s a great for users who have many passwords to keep track of. It will even store passwords encrypted from private accounts.
  3. Evernote Web Clipper. This extension lets you easily save things from the browser, such as web pages and images, to the Evernote notebook. It’ll also take screenshots, save files in PDF, and mark content and images.
  4. Google Translate. This will automatically translate any pages that are in a foreign language.
  5. Boomerang for Gmail. This extension works with Gmail to schedule and track e-mails. You can even send drafted e-mails whenever you want, even offline.
  6. Blur. This is a neat extension for online privacy and security. You can do things such as manage passwords, make payments securely, and block online trackers.
  7. Save to Pocket. If you have a Pocket account, this extension will let you save articles and web content to Pocket so you can read it later.
  8. Google Keep. This is a handy tool for taking notes and making to-do lists.
  9. Jot. This is good if you just need a simple tool for taking short notes or making small lists.
  10. Taco. This one connects to a variety of services, such as Wunderlist, Evernote, Asana, Basecamp, and Trello to let you put all your projects in one place so you can keep track of them and organize them.
  11. SEO Quake. This tool will let you check backlinks, internal & external links, do an SEO audit, check keyword density, traffic analytics, and more.
  12. Rapportive is great for building connections by using LinkedIn connections.
  13. Pablo is a great tool for creating images for social media use in marketing.

Firefox: (note the Firefox recently rolled out a new updated version – 57- in November that may not support many “legacy” add-ons, especially NPAPI extensions and those that are not WebExtensions, so you may want to check the extensions you have.)

  1. AdBlock Plus. As mention for Chrome, it blocks online ads.
  2. Tile Tabs is great if you routinely have multiple browser tabs open. You can arrange your open tabs for easier access and viewing.
  3. Xmarks Sync lets you save and sync bookmarks across PCs and browsers.
  4. Lazarus lets you recover whatever you entered into form fields so you don’t lose everything if a page crashes or times out.
  5. LastPass. Another mentioned for Chrome, this one is a password manager.
  6. Copy Plain Text will let you copy text without all the formatting.
  7. TinyURL Generator will let you generate TinyURLs without having to leave a webpage, which is handy for creating social media posts.

There are so many more great browser extensions available, and you can find more if you go , here, here, , , and here.
