How To Increase Conversions On Your Landing Page

By: Kelly Bolton   Date: May 23, 2016

If you have a website for your business, you most likely are worried in part about your conversion rates. You probably have been doing whatever you can to try to get traffic to your site, trying whatever marketing tips you can to get people to your site and convert them from a visitor into a paying customer. And whatever you are doing may be working well enough for you, getting you traffic and some conversions on your site. But is it enough? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe your conversion rates aren’t as well as you’d like them to be. Or may they are okay but you would like them to be better. And who wouldn’t like them to be better? Better conversion rates mean a greater chance of sales, after all. So to help you out, here are a few tips to help increase conversions once you get people to your landing page.

1. Consistency

Keep what you share/post consistent. All the information you share should be factually consistent. Any inconsistencies can raise a flag. Also, keep consistency in your user’s experience. Not everything new will appeal to everyone. Some innovation and improvements to your landing page can be good, but don’t make too many changes all at once and overwhelm your visitors. Make changes slowly. Also, make sure you calls-to-action and your landing page copy match and remain consistent. And make sure the content in your ads matches what visitors will find when they reach your landing page. For example, people get upset if they click on an ad for an item on sale but they don’t find that sale when they get to the page.

2. Keep It Simple

Keep your content on your landing page short, simple, and to the point. Have information in bullet form, not paragraphs. Sell them on the benefits of your product, not what you offer – if they’re visiting your page, they already know what you offer, they want to know why they should buy it. Testimonials are nice to have, too. People like to see what others have to say. The page design should be simple, as well. Don’t be afraid of white space. And keep images simple and to the point, as well.

3. Catchy Titles

Make your headlines attention-grabbing so people will want to click on it. It needs to be descriptive enough to tell people what it’s about, but intriguing enough that they will want to click to learn more.

4. Sense of Urgency

Give your calls-to-action a sense of urgency to get people to act quickly and take your intended action. Saying something is a “limited time offer” or “available for only the first 100 people”, for example, can compel people to act quickly.

5. Optimisation

Make sure your landing page is optimised for search engines! If it’s not optimised for SEO, you’re missing out on a lot of traffic. Each of your landing pages should, at the very least, have a unique, keyword-focused title tag and meta description, and your main headline should feature your target keyword and have H1 tags. Your page content should have at least 250 words, as that is a good amount for a page of copy to be optimised for 3-5 keyword phrases. Also, make sure your landing page URLs are also good for SEO.

6. Social Media

Let’s not forget the importance of social media. It provides a great way to share calls-to-action. Also, be sure to include buttons on your landing pages so your visitors can share what they see if they like it, knowing that some of their followers will find it useful or interesting as well, which can generate more traffic.
