How to Choose The Right CRM For Your Business

By: Kelly Bolton   Date: January 10, 2018

Customers are the lifeline of a business, so it’s important to make sure you deal with your customers appropriately, so they are happy with you and will continue to patronize your business. This means that not only do you need to provide them with good customer service, but you need to be able to keep track of all your dealings with them. And that means you need good CRM – or customer relationship management – tool. CRM tools are technology/software that will help you to manage all the relationships and interactions your business has with both your current customers and your potential customers, and that will allow you to be able to provide the best service to those customers that you can and bolster your sales. There are many different CRM tools out there, so how do you choose which will be best for your business?

CRM developers are constantly adding features and new capabilities to their programs, which is nice for them, but does everyone care about all those features or use them all? Probably not, since each business is different and will have different needs. So you will want to look carefully at all the different CRM tools out there, get an idea of what features they have, and compare them to the actual needs of your business. Which one should you actually choose, though? Simple. Pick the one that you believe will actually be used by your entire organization. It doesn’t make much sense to pick something with a bunch of fancy features if they won’t be used by your team or if using it will be too complicated and take away from more important things, like time spent with customers. So try to find a CRM tool that has features that each department can use with the data they track, and that is fairly simple to use. A few tips to consider:

  1. Talk to everyone who will be using the CRM for any significant length of time to find out their minimum requirements and what they think would be nice to have.
  2. Talk to CRM vendors before you make a decision. Tell them your problems & business process and ask how their program can help you.
  3. Using the cloud is a big, popular feature now, so take that feature into account.
  4. Be sure you are aware of all the resources and tasks that will be tied to the CRM and don’t forget to take them into consideration when making your choice.
  5. Many people use their mobile phones for doing business tasks, so consider looking for a CRM with mobile ability.
  6. A free, open source CRM with an option for paid hosting and paid support, and which has a large, helpful community that can provide addition tech support might be a good, affordable choice.
  7. Look at how well the CRM will integrate with your computer system, other programs and apps. You don’t want it cause any problems.
  8. Look for a CRM that is flexible and can adapt to and grow with your business’s various processes.
