How To Build A Buzz Around Your New Product Or Business Launch

By: Kelly Bolton   Date: June 6, 2018

If you have a new business or new product you’re preparing to launch, you are no doubt brimming with excitement at the thought of releasing it to the public. For the launch to truly be a success, though, you need to spread your excitement ahead of time to your target audience and get them looking forward to it as well. This means you need to build a buzz surrounding your launch prior to it going live. How do you build a buzz that will have people eager for your product or business launch?

  • Be sure to have social media, a blog, or some way to communicate with your target audience so you can keep them abreast of the progress of your launch.
  • When advertising your product or service, put the focus on “people” instead of your product/service. Tell them what it will do, but also how it will make their lives better.
  • Use the interests of your audience to help with your advertising. What channels do they frequent? How is your product or business relateable to them?
  • Make sure your have a website for your business or product and have a sign-up form on it. This will help gauge pre-launch interest and help generate leads.
  • Hold pre-launch contests and giveaways to build pre-launch exposure.
  • Keep your audience in suspense by not giving away too many details ahead of time. A little mystery will keep them interested.
  • Have a creative marketing hook like a catchy jingle, statement or offer, a “slant” for your business that will get people talking about you to your friends, or an important benefit.
  • Wait lists can create a sense of anticipation and scarcity, which can generate buzz.
  • Offer teasers, sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes views, etc. to hint at what will come.
  • Free PR can help generate buzz, as well. A free PR tool like HARO (Help A Reporter Out) can get you some free publicity with great reach.
  • If your business is relatively new, find some industry influencers who can lend you credibility until you can build up your own.
  • Start a countdown. They’re great for both building anticipation and acting as a reminder.
  • Network. Encourage others in your industry to talk about your upcoming launch. For example, send gift packages with your business card and samples to others in your industry. You can ask them to share your launch on social media on a certain day. Or if you’re releasing an e-book, send out advance copies and ask them to talk about it
  • A mid-week launch will let you remind people about your launch earlier in the week and keep the excite going at the end of the week.
  • Make the launch like an event. If you can afford it, have a big press event for your product announcement. Otherwise, an online event is a great alternative. Making a big deal about your launch is a great way to get attention, and both potential customers and the medial are more likely to take it seriously.
  • Plan. As with anything else, making a plan ahead of time will ensure that it goes smoothly and succeeds.
